A hand-embroidered wall hanging made in collaboration with Regine Ann of the Suludnon (Panay Bukidnon), an indigenous community from the mountainous Capiz–Lumbanao region of Panay. The piece is embroidered in Panubok, a traditional style carrying symbolic motifs drawn from nature and the Sugidanon (Epics of Panay), a body of chanted narratives central to Suludnon cultural life.
Made on a beautifully aged hand-loomed abaca silk from our collection, this is one-of-a-kind and will not be reproduced. A large piece, this measures 58″ x 60″, and took a month and a half to complete.

This tells the story of Kalampay, or the enchanted crab. It starts with Masangladon, a god-like figure from the underworld, falling in love with the beautiful Matan-ayon. To draw her in, he transforms the back of a crab into a lush island filled with flowers and fruit bearing trees. While picking fruits, Matan-ayon is carried to the panibyungan, the mystical source of all water in the underworld, and where Masangladon lives. It is here that the mortal and divine, the worldly and otherworldly intersect.
