Yedla has been making bobbin lace for 40 years, and is one of roughly 50 out of 1000 lace artisans left in Ghanapur, India. She has taught many, hoping to pass the craft along and keep it from fading. Bobbin Lacework originated from Europe and was brought to India in 1897.
Also referred to as ‘Pillow Lace’, a pattern is set on a pillow and pinned in place, followed by a technique of twisting and crossing threads held on bobbins. Each piece takes 2-3 days to make.
The Rosita is a lace object—to hold something you love, cover your favorite glass, sit on a surface, or hang on a wall. Mostly it is just a beautiful thing to have.
